Archbishop Averky (†1976) is a Church Father of recent times and a powerful confessor of the true spirit of Orthodoxy. St. John S&SF once told Fr. Seraphim Rose to consult Archibishop Averky's writings whenever he had theological questions.

Folks,
I am utterly delighted to discover that neo-Jordanville (and neo-SJKP) have recently made Abp. Averky books available. Notice, though, that what is being newly offered today is decidedly only his "non-political" material — such as commentaries on Scripture and instructions in asceticism. Even in those books, we don't know if there were references disparaging the MP that got censored. So, let us not forget Archbishop Averky's teachings against modern thinking — against ecumenism and against humanism. And surely he never would have agreed to go along with the ROCOR-MP union of 2007.

The Apocalypse
Abp. Averky
Translated and with an introduction by Fr. Seraphim of Platina of blessed memory, this detailed commentary on the Book of Revelation (more accurately, the Apocalypse) by one of the spiritual giants of our age is perhaps the only reliable guide readily available in English to an Orthodox understanding of its complexities. In reading both the commentary and the book, it is wise to remember that it required seven centuries for the Church to reach oneness of mind that this book was indeed to be regarded as part of Holy Scripture. OUT OF PRINT. Backorders cannot be accepted at this time.
Item# 2457. (DC: R) Paperbound. $0.00
On the Situation of the Orthodox Christian in the Contemporary World
Abp. Averky
Can an old Russian bishop speak to modern Americans? Listen -- "The contemporary world, with a few exceptions ..., does not make clear and open threats of bodily torments and bodily death for those who bear the name of Christ. A significant part of it even continues to bear the name of "Christian", builds churches, calls on the Name of Christ, and swears on the Holy Bible. --But this is all just appearance." In these few short pages, Vladyka Averky, even now many years after his repose, speaks to us of the "great American nightmare" in which we live and how to go about surviving it spiritually.

“Brothers and sisters! Let us aspire towards ascetic labor, in which is expressed precisely the essence of our Orthodox Christian faith, which is the labor of imitating Christ in bearing the cross and self-crucifixion – a faith of labor and, laboring lawfully as the Word of God teaches, let us suffer all things for the Truth, not moving away from it, as do many because of their poverty of spirit or self-interest. And let us remember well: where there is no labor, where there is no steadfastness in the faith – there is neither Orthodoxy nor true faith in God and in His Christ. Amen.”
– Archbishop Averky
